Santa Ana River Repairs

The Newport Trunk and Force Main project was recently completed to improve reliability for the Newport Beach sewer system by installing a pipeline connection from the Bitter Point Pump Station to our Huntington Beach Plant. A portion of the work included tunneling under the Santa Ana River. Post construction monitoring has indicated that soil above the tunneled section of pipeline has settled more than anticipated. The levees are being reinforced above the pipeline to provide assurance that they will withstand any unusually high river flows that could occur this winter.

Levee reinforcement and coring work was successfully completed. Additional soil remediation efforts are also planned for the future. Please rest assured that every precaution is being taken to maintain the integrity of the levees.
