A new pump station is needed to replace the existing 65-year-old pump station. The existing station is too small for current and future wastewater flows. The existing station does not meet current safety, electrical, and building codes. It is located in an area of limited access, making routine operation and maintenance difficult, as well as delaying emergency response efforts. Because of site limitations, cost, and the inability to keep the current station in service while upgrading, rehabilitation is not an alternative. A new facility must be built.
If the existing pump station is not replaced there is a risk of sewage spills if incoming flows exceed the current capacity of the pump station. This risk increases as incoming flows increase over time. In addition, a new pump station will increase ease of access allowing better maintenance and ability to better respond to emergency situations.
