
Water Campers will spend each day accompanied by a camp leader and assistants who will guide students through the daily activities.
A professional in the water industry who will involve students in discussion, hands-on experiments, interactive lessons, and tours of water and wastewater treatment plants, wetlands, laboratories, and other sites of interest administers each activity.
Examples of lesson/activity topics include: Where does our water come from? How does water get to our tap? Where does our wastewater go? How do we treat water/wastewater contaminants? What is recycled water? How do we respond to water-related emergencies? How can we protect water quality at the beach? How do we remove contaminants from our aquifers? How can we best conserve our water resources?
Examples of activites:
- Tap water vs. bottled water taste testing
- Ocean water sampling at Huntington State Beach with the Orange County Sanitation District
- Environmental crime scene detective work with the Office of the District Attorney of Orange County
- Safeguarding the aquatic environment
- Drought-proofing Orange County with the Groundwater Replenishment System
- Water quality testing in the Irvine Ranch Water District’s constructed wetlands , urban runoff, and your own backyard.
