The Research and Special Projects efforts look for ways to improve the District's operations by identifying new or different processes or equipment that could be used and by finding the most cost-effective ways to meet current and future environmental regulations. While other District staff work to optimize the existing processes, we try to determine if there's a better process or a different approach that should be used.

Many of these activities fall under the general description of research, development, and demonstration. Our staff reviews technical literature, talks to equipment vendors, and stays in close contact with other agencies to learn and share information about new developments in the wastewater field. We have also formed valuable collaborations with universities to bring up-to-date knowledge about wastewater treatment processes into our plants.
