Hospital Road Traffic Alert
Starting as early as Friday, March 16, Hospital Road will be closed between Newport Blvd. and Old Newport Blvd. The closure will continue through the following week M-F, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The Newport Blvd to Old Newport Blvd transition ramp is open.
Please note: During the road closure, emergency vehicles will continue to have access to Hospital Road heading towards Hoag Hospital.
Why the road closure? A portion of the new regional sewer pipe was recently constructed in the existing alignment of the old sewer pipe. In order to provide continuous wastewater service to the community, a temporary bypass system was installed to allow sewer flows from residences and businesses to continue to be transported to OCSD's facilities for wastewater treatment. The temporary bypass system mostly consisted of above ground sewer pipes. Across Hospital Road, the pipe was buried to keep it off the roadway. The bypass system is no longer needed in this area and Hospital Road will be closed to remove the pipe from underneath the roadway. *All dates and times are subject to change based on inclement weather and other operational factors.*

The Newport Blvd. District 6 Trunk Sewer Relief construction project will replace an existing 60 year old regional sewer pipeline with a larger sewer pipeline to increase the sewer flow capacity and reduce the risk of spills. Construction will take place along Newport Blvd. between Pacific Coast Highway and Industrial Way in the City of Newport Beach and Pomona Ave and 17th St in the City of Costa Mesa.
