Green is our New Favorite Color
Our green fleet initiative continues with the addition of OCSD’s first EVER CNG engine, sewer combo cleaning truck.
This truck utilizes water recycling technology that allows OCSD to perform sewer cleaning operations without the need for potable water. Instead we are able to use sewer water (our specialty). It also helps OCSD reach its five-year cleaning cycle goal for managed sewers that aims to annually clean 55 miles of sewer. With this new addition, OCSD is expected to realize savings of approximately 1.2 million gallons of water and 2,000-man hours a year by not driving to fire hydrants or renting water tanker trucks to fill the truck. Staff currently uses 2 sewer combo trucks that require 1500-gallons of potable water each use, totaling approximately 1.2 to 1.8 million gallons of potable water annually for each truck.
