Background Information:
This project is Phase 2 to complete repairs of the east and west levees that were damaged under the original project to install an additional pipeline connection from an existing pump station to the Huntington Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant in order to improve the reliability of the Sanitation District’s force main systems in the City of Newport Beach.    A portion of the work included tunneling under the Santa Ana River.  Post construction monitoring indicated that soil above the tunneled section of pipeline settled more than anticipated at the east and west Santa Ana River levees.

In 2011, the Sanitation District completed Phase 1 of the levee repairs under an emergency permit from the California Coastal Commission.  The Phase 1 portion completed repairs on top of the levees.  This project is the Phase 2 portion, to complete the repairs and restore the levees to their pre-project condition as required by the County of Orange and the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

Construction began May 2013 is scheduled to be complete January 2014.
