Regional sewer pipeline rehabilitation on the Newport Blvd Sewer Project is underway.  Starting October 8, crews will need to close lanes on Newport Blvd. to start digging.

October 2018 Activities:

Work Hours:  Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.*

*Extended work hours are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, October 10 with work starting as early as 7 a.m. and ending after 3:30 p.m.  The contractor expects to be excavated down to below the existing sewer and will be cutting into the pipe. Due to the nature of the work, additional time outside of normal works hours may be required.  Work hours are being coordinated with the City of Newport Beach. Please call the Construction Hotline (714) 378-2965 for the most current information.

South of PCH

Starting October 8, and lasting approximately 1-2 weeks, southbound Newport Blvd. (heading into the SB Newport 1 LanePeninsula) will be reduced to one lane.  The PCH to southbound Newport Blvd. on ramp will be closed. It is recommended to detour using Superior Ave. and Balboa Blvd. to avoid the construction area.

Since there will only be one lane into the Peninsula, to ensure traffic continues to flow, right turns onto Short St. will be closed and drivers should proceed to Finley Ave. Drivers will still be able to exit from Short St.  From Via Lido, the left turn lane to southbound Newport Blvd. will also be closed.  Detour via 32nd St.

A desilting tank is currently located on Short St. for the next 5-7 weeks. The tank is part of the temporary dewatering system that will be in place while construction on Newport Blvd. occurs.  A generator will be used as part of the system.

A full closure of Short St., leaving Finley Ave. as the only detour, is anticipated to occur early November.  More detail will be provided as the date approaches.

OCSD Lido Pump Station

The Lido Pump Station is critical to the conveyance of wastewater from the local sewers to the regional wastewater treatment facility in Huntington Beach.  (See map for the location of the OCSD Lido Pump Station.)

Work is scheduled take place October 8 - 9 at and around the pump station. The work has been coordinated to take place at the same time as the Newport Blvd. Sewer Project to minimize public impact since it requires lane closures on Newport Blvd.

North of PCH

Crews continue working along northbound Newport Blvd. north of Hospital Rd.  The travel lane closest to the shoulder may need to be closed for worker and public safety between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  The existing sewer pipeline alignment from the shoulder Newport Blvd., crosses under Newport Blvd. and into the City of Newport Beach Maintenance Yard on Superior Ave., which backs up to Newport Blvd. Starting mid-October, crews will work within the maintenance yard to prepare to rehabilitate the sewer pipeline across Newport Blvd. using a trenchless method, eliminating the need to excavate through a very busy high-volume roadway.

Thank you for your continued patience during the construction of this important project.

All dates and times are subject to change based on inclement weather and other operational factors.
